A Girl Named Sadie Hawkins

By

Words from Pete Jelinek from Maple Valley, Washington.

"So, I am not the type that has ever gotten into a street fight. The closest thing to a throw down was when a girl named Sadie Hawkins (true) kicked my ass in 7th grade. I didn’t want to hit a chick so I finally just put the girl in a head lock until she tapped out.

When you have a sizable snout(I do) the last thing you want to do is break it. A few weeks ago my buddy and I went for a ride in Snolqualmie, WA. I was feeling my oats on the way up. It was like the Caddy Shack seen on the golf course. Probably would have had a KOM on the way up had I had a Garmin back then. We did a short descent and all systems were a go. We had misjudged the lighting a bit, and it was dusk once we started to hit the 2nd descent. All systems were a go, and we blazed down the trail. About a ½ mile down I clipped a tree on my right, and I was thrown about 20 feet! I have no recollection of falling, only landing.. I was just plowing into a root system with my face. I never liked the TLD A-! helmet because the damn thing was so poorly vented. Credit where credit is due, It protected my head. My nose spewed blood like a water hydrant. Thanks to my buddy Nick Felure for helping me gain composure. We ended up riding down.

The next two days I was dazed and confused. Simple tasks like turning on a computer or driving a car were difficult. By the 3rd day I was back to normal. I own a company that puts me into the public eye all the time. We serve Seniors in the home. What do you say…Well, I told everyone that a group of 49er fans jumped me after the Superbowl.

So did it hurt that much? Not really. I always thought how horrible it would be to earn a living as a UFC fighter or boxer. I’m going to look up Sadie on Facebook and settle an old score."
