Gulmarg Kashmir

Gulmarg Kashmir /
India

Introduction

Gulmarg, Kashmir is India's premier ski resort and sits at 2,600m.  The gondola runs in two phases up Mt. Apherwatt reaching an altitude of 4000m. In winter it see's a large flow of backcountry skiiers and boarders filling up the resort and tearing up the powder.  2011 saw the begining of MTB in Gulmarg with the Kongdoor gondola allowing bikes on the lift.  In Autumn 2011 a new chairlift opened, installed by Poma and giving new access to 3500m on Apherwatt.

Gulmarg Kashmir Bike Park has hundreds of kilometres of trails which are raw, strewn with roots, packed with dirt and plenty of rocks. The majority of the trails are of a downhill grade and are mutli use so please respect other users. However there is one DH trail specifically constructed in 2011 of length 2.7km dropping 380m between the mid gondola station and Gulmarg.

There are more routes that drop down to the villages of Tangmarg, Drung and Babarishi below the plateau of Gulmarg.  The majority of the time when on the trails you are within 30 mins walk from road access.  If an evacuation situation occurs it will be your group who will need to perform any evacuation.
