The Crankworx Hangover

Crankworx Hangover

2013 Crankworx has come and gone all too quickly.  During Crankworx the town was alive.  There was always hundreds of spectators crowded at the bottom of the gondola to catch a glimpse of some of the best DH bikers in the world doing their thing.  There was always a big party, live music or Deep Summer Photo Challenge to check out.

The Fox Air Downhill was one of my favorites to watch.  Racers charge down A-Line top to bottom at full blast.  And there are a ton of great spectator spots to watch from all the way down.  The video crews and big screens at the bottom of the lift and at Whistler Olympic Plaza also make for great viewing spots if you can't face fighting to get trail-side.

The race was within seconds but the Canadian Steve Smith took the win for the Men's Pro category and Jill Kintner for the Women's Pro category.  There were 131 Pro Men competing this year.  But keep in mind that anyone can enter too -even you! There are a ton of different categories and you will no doubt fit into one of them.  This year each category filled up like this:

Women Junior Amature  (13-18) - 6 competitors

Women Senior Amature (19+) - 16

Women Pro - 21

Boys (13-15) - 36

Men Junior Amateur (16-18) - 65

Men Senior Amature (19-29) - 73

Men Masters (30+) - 39

Men Pro - 131

Four Wheels - 1

Check out the highlights of the 1st place male and female run.

So categories for almost any one to enter, great viewing opportunities and a great after party.  What more do you want, except for this to happen every day?

But now it's back to normal and us locals are in hang over mode.  Just like after the Olympics in 2010 we were so pumped while it was here and then one day it was just over.  Thanks for the good time but now you're gone too Crankworks.  But we'll see you next year...
