Who are you and what do you do at Cervinia Bike Park?
“Breuil-Cervinia Valtournenche” is a resort in the northwest of Italy, in winter an extensive international ski area with ski connections to the nearby Zermatt resort (Switzerland). In the summer, along with summer skiing on the glacier of Plateau Rosà, the resort offers mountain biking, hiking, mountaineering, Matterhorn ascent, 18-hole golf course, horseback riding, adventure park, and the bike park with cable car access to the trails.
How long ago was Cervinia Bike Park developed? Who or what was the driving force?
The bike park was established 5 years ago when an ever-increasing interest in the downhill discipline became evident at the mountain resorts throughout Italy. It is now a major attraction in our area with bike transfers, bike hotels, and events held throughout the season.
How many visitors do you get in a weekend/season at the bike park?
A good weather weekend will see 30-40 riders in the park, distributed throughout the bike park in Cervinia and Valtournenche.
What is the most popular trail at your bike park?
The most popular trail is the trail number 1, great for the beginner and intermediate level riders. Fast ascent with the lifts to start all over again, thanks to the variants in the trail!
Will there be any new trails added this season or will you be re-developing any existing trails?
A new very unique trail was added last season; with a 1,500 altitude drop, 10,000 meters long, start from the snow at 3,500 m asl on the glacier arriving down to the green fields of Cervinia town. This is also the famous Maxiavalanche race trail.
Describe the predominant “style” of riding at your park? (Natural vs. Manmade, DH/Tech/Steep vs. Flow/Features) Typically, what kind of terrain do you have? (Rocky, Dry-dusty, Tacky, Roots)…
Our style is natural, on a rocky terrain.
Tell us a little bit about Cervinia’s mountain town. Are there any restaurants or bars that mtb-ers like to spend their time?
Breuil-Cervinia Valtournenche is a welcoming alpine village; it offers mountain bikers access to the bike park via the cable cars meaning fast ascent time for more downhill runs! Bike hotels, bike transfers, special bike tickets, bike + lunch packages, bike hire for those not travelling with their own and bike wash points. The village has a lively nightlife, plenty of exciting events and fun non-biking activities as well.
Tell us about any big events that are happening this summer at the bike park?
In its 10th year, the Mega 2RX Enduro event will be held on the 26th-27th July. The race starts on the glacier at 3,500 meters above sea level, 10,000 meters long with an altitude difference of 1,500 meters.
When is your typical season? Do you have an opening date yet?
Breuil-Cervinia opening on the 28th of June to the 7th of September, Valtournenche from the 12th of July to the 31st of August and Torgnon chairlift from the 9th to the 17th of August.
What does the future hold for Cervinia Bike Park?
Breuil-Cervinia Valtournenche firmly believes in this discipline of riding and intends to extend the bike park with new natural trails and a new international race.
