Prato Selva

Prato Selva /
Italy

Introduction

Located near Fano Adriano up in the Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga, a 2 and half hour stunning drive from Rome sits Prato Selva Bike Park, one of the smaller lift stations in the Abruzzo. Although small it boasts first rate views over to Gran Sasso (the highest peak in the Appenine mountains at 2912m) fun trails and a nice friendly atmosphere.

The park has been running since 2006 and has a small but well developed set of trails to which they add new features each year. The three main lift-served trails include a number of man-made obstacles and make the most of the natural terrain, offering trails that should entertain all but the most expert. Beyond these downhill tracks you can ride a couple of fast and flowing longer freeride trails that use a pick-up to bring you back to the main lift area, though you need to make sure you check when this is running before dropping all the way down.

To make the most of it you should stay over at the rifugio at the bottom of the lift or in one of the many farmhouse Bed And Breakfasts (Agriturismi) locally and enjoy the great simple food the area is famous for.
