Day 11: Hopp Schwiiz: Travel to Verbier

URT Day 12 Alpe Dhuez

Day 11: The Mega main event, and heading into Switzerland. We have just arrived in Verbier after a typically stunning drive up through the Chamonix valley with Mont Blanc looming over us. Hairpin roads, glaciers, hanging valleys, and the clanging of cow bells in the air. The hills are alive with the sound of…. OK, too much, I know! But it is great to be in Switzerland. This morning the main event went down in Alpe d’Huez, with Remy Absalon storming to the Megavalanche win ahead of Jerome Clementz and René Wildhaber. For the third time in a week Tim sat on the wrong trail waiting for the riders to come down. He is blaming tiredness from riding the Alpe d’Huez 21 virage road climb last night! Whatever the reason he missed the leaders but got some good shots of the main pack coming through.

Meanwhile Dan sessioned DH3 Poutran down to Oz a few times before packing up. Some great lines and some big jumps, this course was used for the Avalanche Cup last weekend and will be used for the Nissan European Downhill Cup in a few weeks time. Hardly anyone on the run as everyone was either heading home or on the Mega course.

Not much else to report from a few hours on the road. Pizza and some necessary bike tech this evening. 9 am meeting with Trifon (Verbier Bike Park chief) at the Medran lift in the morning. Super excited – just looking up at the hill now and it looks ace. If it wasn’t getting dark we’d probably try and head up this evening!
