Day 7: Growing Anticipation in Alpe d’Huez

URT Day 8 alpe dhuez

Day 7: Preparing for the Megavalanche. So yesterday was pretty much lost to unavoidable admin activities. We did no riding, took no pictures, and shot no video. It’s actually hard to remember what we did do but whatever it was we were busy and it was dull.

A better day today. Picked up our passes first thing and headed up the main DMC lift to join the Mega qualifier course where it goes from fire road into technical single track. Finally back on the bike we rode down to Oz Station where Tim got out his camera and we took some pics in a few different locations. A couple of the best below, Dan and myself 1v1 in a straight line going for the next corner – good to get a bit of practice riding with other riders right next to you!

And finally an image of the man normally behind the camera – Tim gets to have a play on the other side of the lens for once...

The Mega qualifying course has changed since last year so we then checked out part of the new route down through the town. Single track with lots of small doubles, triples and table-tops which should make it fun when 200 riders try to get down it at the same time, but I guess that goes for the rest of the course anyway so that’s half the fun! Unbelievably the sky has clouded over and the forecast for tomorrow is rain. I had thought that rain was banned on the URT so we will have to get that sorted out pronto. Although the idea of 1500 riders on a wet muddy qualifying course is pretty entertaining.
