URT Day 57 Getting to Les Gets

Day 57: Back full circle and arrival in Les Gets. After 56 days on the road we have come full circle, back in France, up past 2-Alpes where the URT kicked off, and settled in the Portes du Soleil. We are in the resort that many see as the hub of European mountain biking, a home from home for British riders since the famous UCI World Cups that Steve Peat would rule. Our route from Bardonecchia took us up through the Fréjus Road Tunnel which connects France and Italy. For those coming from the north and reluctant to venture much further south the tunnel means you could be in Bardonecchia in only a couple of hours drive from Geneva or most of the major French bike parks, so close enough for day trips and well worth considering. Just be aware of the €36 charge for the tunnel!

We got set up and managed a quick hour on the bike this afternoon – just enough to get a taste of what Les Gets has to offer. Which is plenty of machine built berms and table-tops/doubles. It was cut short by a flat tyre half way down the main DH trail back to town so it meant a walk down the trails, but unbelievably that was the first flat of the URT to I guess it had to happen at some point. Plenty of time to check out all the trails though, and we are expecting a fleet of other riders with us this weekend – their arrival is imminent. So between us, covering the whole of the huge Porte du Soleil area should be achievable. This is going to be an epic 4 days…
