Day 29: Magic Mottolino

URT Day 29 Livigno

Day 29: Magic trails in Livigno Mottolino. Just to be clear here, Livigno is the town and Mottolino is the name of the main mountain. It’s the same place, but the bike park is often referred to as just one or the other so we wanted to avoid confusion! It’s a Kona Approved park, so we were expecting big things. There has clearly been a lot of work put into promotions – the trail maps are printed in Italian, German and English. Interestingly, the trails are actually named in English, such as “Chemical Water” and “Black Eye”. The park has large dedicated areas for jumps, northshore and skills development, and of course had the huge air bag for big-hit practice positioned right next to the lift station. We had a slow start after yesterdays long drive but eventually got going and actually covered almost all the marked trails between us during the day. The 450m height difference means that a complete cycle (base to top to base again) takes on average about 20 minutes, depending of course on which trail you come down. As always we got a few photo sessions in; a few of us, and a few with riders Michael and Jens who we met on the trail.

After the riding I took a set of our busted up forks in to “The Bike Store” (that’s the name of the shop!) and left them in the more than capable hands of Sergio. So they’ll be up and running again tomorrow. Sergio also runs a mountain bike guiding company called Livignontherocks, and as a local knows all the hidden trails in the area. Probably well worth giving him a call if you want to explore outside of the main bike park trails.

We had some last minute additions to the team today, with Sam and Nadège coming up from Luzern. And our numbers should increase again over the weekend when Paul and Mark show up for some riding – a huge WorldBikeParks team should be able to cover the whole mountain pretty easily!
