Day 17: Wind and Rain in Wiriehorn

URT Day 18 Wiriehorn

Day 17: Mud-fest at the iXS Swiss Cup. What a difference a day makes. The weather sucks. It’s the kind of rain that your mum calls ‘really wet rain’. It’s lashing it down, and the wind is making it all the more entertaining. All-in-one waterproof body suits are definitely the order of the day. Riders are getting to the bottom of the course covered head-to-toe in muck and have to hose each other down, although this is no problem with the awesome new (and permanent) bike wash facilities just installed thanks to the guys at Hot-Trail. No photos sorry – don’t really want to risk all the expensive camera gear in this weather! I spent the morning with the head of the bike park here Samuel Zeller, discussing the future plans for Wiriehorn. There are a number of new trails in the pipeline as well as a larger XC network planned by the Diemtigtal Tourist Board so the area is definitely set up for growth. Being Switzerland, these things take time as there are numerous government departments that must be consulted. But it is certainly going in the right direction

Not much else going on today with the weather as it is. We did send Dan out in the rain, just so that we could say one of us had been for a ride. The images below from just when he returned, and then again about 10 minutes later show what a battle it was. We are hoping for better tomorrow!
